The original overlay on this pool deck began to show cracks, that can happen in overlays. “Most overlay experts agree that the most common crack-inducing culprit is the substrate, and there can be multiple factors involved. Expansion joints in the underlying slab that are not honored will telegraph through an overlay. But, more often than not, it’s movement in the substrate that will produce cracks in the overlay,” according to Concrete Decor.

To correct for the cracking the concrete is first prepared by grinding and/or chemical etching. Next we place a high-quality, hi‐build, latex deck coating with cool feel technology designed to reduce the temperature of concrete surfaces exposed to UV rays by up to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Note: The temperature reduction may differ due to factors such as ambient temperature, time of day, and the amount of direct sunlight on the surface.
